Doug Leone - Lessons from a Titan
Doug Leone led one of the world's most successful venture firms, Sequoia, for over 25 years after he was given responsibility for the firm by its founder, Don Valentine, in 1996. Alongside Mike Moritz, the pair managed its expansion from a single $150 million early-stage fund to an $85 billion global powerhouse.
In this Colossus podcast, he chats with the host on topics ranging from his early career to learnings toward building Sequoia, what he looks for in founders, what makes top performers tick, and shares his views on go-to-market. A must-read or listen.

This report needs no introductions. Key takeaways:
Services still contribute >50% to our GDP
Domestic credit (55%) lags the world average (148%) by a mile
A large behemoth of 1415mn in population still has a tiny sliver of 45mn regular or mature users
Shark Tank aided visibility & tier 2/3 towns ramping up entrepreneurship
India’s manufacturing prowess (Mfg as % of GDP) visible but not enough (17% in 2021 vs 27% of China)
40 (multiple choice) questions you should be able to (eventually) answer about each item on your roadmap

Building a product roadmap is daunting. No founder or team is expected to have complete clarity on a product’s roadmap before or even during building it. However, it is always useful to look at a particular situation with a maximum scope or guardrails. Even if you can answer and build with half of these questions, you’ll be massively ahead of the majority.
Until next week!
